The Weekly Wrap

A round up of all the action for the Darley stallions over the past week
Helmet finishes the season with a flourish

Anda Muchacho, a first-crop son of Helmet, landed the last race of the European Pattern season, the G2 Premio Roma on Sunday, 26 November. It capped a tremendous year for the Thomas Hassett-bred colt, who after being unraced as a juvenile, has won six of his seven races including the G3 Italian 2,000 Guineas and G3 Premio del Piazzale.

Helmet, who will stand at a fee of £12,000 in 2018, is the sire of progeny who have won 12 Stakes races this season, which is only beaten by Frankel amongst European second-season sires. They are led by dual Classic winner and G1-winning miler Thunder Snow.

Farhh Rocks

First-crop sire Farhh has enjoyed an excellent first season and he added a new winner to his portfolio at Wolverhampton when Thunderbolt Rocks broke his maiden in style. Improving from his first start at Newbury, he came through from the back to win going away by three-quarters of a length in the manner of a colt likely to be competitive at a higher grade.

Farhh, who will be standing this coming season at a fee of £10,000 Oct 1, Special Live Foal, has enjoyed an excellent first season as a stallion. From only 19 runners, he has the unbeaten G3 Acomb Stakes hero Wells Farhh Go, Italian Stakes winner Fa Ul Sciur, the multiple Stakes-placed Dee Ex Bee (who won an entry into next seasons Derby by winning a valuable conditions race at Epsom) and the impressive wide-margin Newcastle scorer Elegiac.

Outstripping his rivals

The first foals by Outstrip are going through the ring and the past week at Goffs have seen some excellent results for the Breeders’ Cup winner.

All three of his foals to go through the ring during the select sessions found new homes, producing a very respectable average of €41,000 which is over seven times their conception fee, a figure only beaten amongst first-season sires by Muhaarar. They topped out at €90,000, when Abbeylands Farm signed for a colt out of the Cape Cross mare Cape Mystery.

Demand continued for the grey son of Exceed And Excel, from the family of El Prado, on the Saturday when he was responsible for the top lot of the day, a €39,000 purchase by Tally Ho Stud for the Galbertstown Stud-consigned colt out of Tawjeeh.

An inaugural member of the Darley Club, a nomination for Outstrip can be bought this season at a fee of £5,000 Oct 1, Special Live Foal.

Happy Manduro

Manduro has enjoyed an excellent fortnight with his juveniles, siring new winners at Saint-Cloud (Berea) and Lyon-Parilly (Calypso Song), while last Thursday his son Pharrell continued his upward trajectory when landing his third race of the season. Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, he is progressing with each run and beat a field made up exclusively of winners, including a Stakes performer, by upwards of two lengths over ten furlongs at Angers.

Half an hour after Thunderbolt Rocks had broken his maiden at Wolverhampton, Manduro’s juvenile half-brother Hipster Boy (Dubawi’s 31st juvenile winner of the season) saluted the judge for the first time. Racing in the maroon and white colours of HH Sheikha Al Jalila Racing, he was making his second start after a debut third at Nottingham.

Manduro will be covering this season at Haras du Logis at a fee of €7,000, October 1st Special Live Foal.

Australasian delight

It was another successful weekend for the European Darley stallions with three siring Stakes winners.

At Pukekohe in New Zealand, Iffraaj’s juvenile daughter Melt broke her maiden in style when landing the Listed Counties Challenge by over three lengths, before Authorized’s evergreen son Maygrove won his fifth Stakes race in the G3 Counties Cup.

The other side of the Tasman at Ascot in Australia, Poet’s Voice’s (pictured) son Trap For Fools landed his first Stakes contest in the Listed Tattersall’s Cup over 2100m. A highly progressive four-year-old, he has now won six of his last seven starts.
