The Weekly Wrap

A round up of all the action for the Darley stallions over the past week
Double delight for Exceed And Excel

Exceed And Excel is renowned for his smart two-year-olds and he looks to have another very exciting juvenile in the form of Royal Intervention, who was hugely impressive when landing the Listed Empress Fillies’ Stakes at HQ on Saturday.

Racing in the colours of Lord Lloyd Webber, Royal Intervention took the six-furlong contest by four and a half lengths and will surely now step up to Group level for her next start.

Later the same day, Exceed And Excel sired his second Stakes winner of the day, and a new Group winner, as his three-year-old son Julio landed the G3 Hamburger Flieger-Preis in Germany.

New Approach’s Classic crop continue their winning ways

New Approach’s current crop of three-year-olds are flying, not least courtesy of sensational Derby winner Masar, and the Dalham Hall Stud resident could now have a new star to his name, following Waldlied’s dominant victory in the G2 Prix de Malleret on Sunday.

Showing her rivals a clean pair of heels after the first half-mile, Waldlied was never challenged and cruised to a two-and-a-half-length victory from Fuse (Teofilo).

She becomes the second consecutive winner of the race for New Approach, following Strathspey’s victory for Godolphin last year.

The aforementioned Masar was also in action over the weekend, turning in a superb piece of work on Newmarket’s July course (video above). He has now been supplemented for this Saturday’s G1 Eclipse.

Success for Slade

Slade Power added a new winner in fine style on Wednesday, 27 June when his son Typhoon Ten won at the very first time of asking, showing a great attitude to beat previous winner Sporting Chance at Kempton.

On Saturday, Slade Power’s first ever winner, Strings Of Life, became her sire’s first Black Type performer when running a creditable second to Exceed And Excel’s Royal Intervention in the Listed Empress Fillies’ Stakes at Newmarket.
