Bow Echo has been a simply outstanding flagbearer for his sire Night Of Thunder and his sheer brilliance was once again to the fore on Wednesday, 29 July when he ran out the dominant winner of the G1 Sussex Stakes.
Bidding to retain his perfect record, Bow Echo was settled off the early pace under Billy Loughnane, settling behind familiar foe Gstaad. As Gstaad picked up the pace once entering the straight, George Boughey’s charge had the move well covered and quickened brilliantly inside the final furlong to win by half a length.
Opera Ballo (Ghaiyyath) put up another superb performance to finish third despite racing very keenly early on, while G1 Queen Anne winner Ten Bob Tony (Night Of Thunder) ran another outstanding race to finish fourth.
Bow Echo is now unbeaten in six starts and has won three G1 contests on the bounce, having landed the 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes this year. His trainer indicated after the race that a trip to France for either the Jacques le Marois or Prix du Moulin could be on the cards, with the Breeders’ Cup a firm end of year target.
A homebred for the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid al Maktoum, Bow Echo’s pedigree certainly shouts future stallion, being inbred 3X3 to Zomaradah, of course dam of his own outstanding grandsire Dubawi. Bow Echo is out of Aristocratic Lady, a half-sister to two Stakes winners including G1 placegetter Royal Rhyme.
Night Of Thunder’s position as Dubawi’s heir goes from strength to strength, with the 2025 Champion sire and current leading sire enjoying another outstanding year. His 17 2025 Black Type winners include 12 who have been successful at Group level and no fewer than five G1 winners – more than any other stallion worldwide.
