The Bank Holiday crowd gathered at Kempton had a horse to note when Gethin, the four-year-old son of Ghaiyyath, showed his class to take the Listed 1m2f Magnolia Stakes in good style.
Breaking smartly, the field set off at a good pace with Callum Rodriguez doing well to harness the Owen Burrows-trained colt's exuberance as he sat on heels of the leader, Devil's Advocate (Too Darn Hot) under William Buick.
The pace was generous and it looked to be a battle for supremacy between the pair as they took one another on around Kempton's polytrack, but it was Gethin who was to prevail as he was nudged into the lead around a furlong from home, coming home just over three-lengths in front of his brave opponent.
Having begun his career in the most promising way with victories in Novice races on his first two starts, Gethin had to settle for second place in his only two subsequent races, both in Listed company. This time he went one better and is expected to progress to racing at the highest level, according to his Trainer who holds him in very high regard.
Bred by Elysian Bloodstock Ltd out of the mare Aniseed (Dalakhani), Gethin finds himself following in the footsteps of his half-brother, Global Giant (Shamardal), himself a winner of the same race in 2021.
Ghaiyyath's progeny continue to impress and his yearlings show an excellent return in the sales ring, selling for €260k, €350k, 300,00 and 400,000 Guineas. Ghaiyyath stands at Kildangan Stud, Ireland at a fee of €20,000 (Oct 1st, SLF).
