Ghaiyyath continues his rich vein of form

Steller’s Sea becomes a new Stakes winner in Italy

Steller’s Sea, a three-year-old son of Ghaiyyath, continued the fine run for his sire on Tuesday, 2 June when winning the Listed Premio Mauro Sbarigia in Milan. Run over a mile on the Italian Derby undercard, the improving colt won by five-and-a-quarter lengths.

From only eight career starts, Steller’s Sea has now won five races after victories at Rome and Merano at two and now the winning twice at Milan as a three-year-old.

Bred by Tally-Ho Stud, Steller’s Sea is the first Stakes winner bred out of the winning mare Ice Eagle (Free Eagle), who hails from the extended family of G1 scorers Ectot, Meditate and Most Improved.

Ghaiyyath has been enjoying an excellent season, siring G1 winners in both hemispheres through Opera Ballo and Observer. Since the beginning of May his progeny have recorded 21 victories and included an impressive double yesterday through Bunyola Bay, winner of the €200,000 Gowran Classic, and Aperoll, an easy debutant winner at Newbury.
