Tom Kitten defied the racing pattern at Caulfield on Saturday, 7 February when he came from nearly last to win the G3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes over 1,400m.
First-up since finishing a gallant third in the G1 Mackinnon Stakes 2,000m at Flemington last November, the powerful son of Darley shuttle stallion Harry Angel swooped down the centre of the track to record his fifth Stakes-race victory.
Now co-trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman at Mornington, Tom Kitten appreciated the patient ride by Craig Williams to beat Feroce by a head with Veight nearly four lengths away in third spot.
Running 1 minute 22.05 seconds for the journey, Tom Kitten boosted his record to seven wins and eight placings from 30 starts for prize-money winnings of a massive $6,375,650.
The Freedmans are now likely to target the G1 All-Star Mile, which Tom Kitten won nearly 12 months ago, and possibly the G1 Australian Cup at Flemington in coming weeks.
Harry Angel has now sired 266 winners of 658 races worldwide, including 20 Stakes-race winners of 41 Black-Type events.
Harry Angel is standing this season at a fee of £10,000 at Dalham Hall Stud. #HarryAngel’s Tom Kitten flies down the straight at Caulfield, winning the G3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes 🥇 https://t.co/O4YbkskpGo
