Space Blues has made a flying start to 2026, siring two winners in two days when his son Space Invasion took the one-mile maiden at Lingfield on Wednesday, 7 January, a day after Tommy Blues recorded his third straight win in a valuable Handicap in Italy.
The Richard Hannon-trained Space Invasion was settled in mid division under Callum Shepherd, before coming three-wide around the home turn to mount his challenge. He quickened impressively once asked and found more when pressed close to home by the fast-finishing Freda to win by half a length.
Space Invasion was bred by Rathbride Farm and is out of the Stakes-placed Holy Roman Emperor mare Peticoatgovernment, herself a half-sister to G2 winner Larchmont Lad. The mare has now produced two winners from two foals to race.
Space Blues enjoyed a tremendous first year with his runners in 2025, siring 24 individual winners headed by G1 Phoenix Stakes hero Power Blue – Timeform’s highest-rated juvenile by a first-season sire last year.
His strike rate of 7% Group horses to runners last year can only be bettered by St Mark’s Basilica (who stands at €40,000) among Irish stallions standing at €100,000 or less.
Space Blues stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €15,000, Oct 1, SLF.
