Triple Crown for Exceed And Excel

Guelph records back-to-back G1 wins with victory in the G1 Champagne Stakes

Exceed And Excel filly Guelph provided her sire a clean sweep of Sydney’s two-year-old Triple Crown with a thrilling last-stride win in the G1 Champagne Stakes over 1600m at Randwick on 27 April.

The win gave Guelph back-to-back G1 wins after she claimed the G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes two weeks earlier and provided Exceed And Excel with all three winners of the two-year-old Triple Crown following Overreach’s victory in the G1 Golden Slipper.

Trained by Peter Snowden and ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Guelph became the first filly in a decade to record the Sires’ Produce-Champagne Stakes double.

A homebred for Darley, Guelph is the second foal of G1 winner Camarilla, a daughter of G1 Queensland Derby winner Camarena (a sister to Watchful, the dam of four-time G1 winner and Darley stallion Sepoy).

The sire of more Stakes winners worldwide in 2013 than any other stallion, Exceed And Excel is the sire of six G1 winners including triple G1 winner Helmet, Excelebration, Margot Did, Overreach and Reward For Effort.

Exceed And Excel is standing the current breeding season at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £35,000 October 1st SLF alongside Sepoy who stands at a fee of £15,000, while Helmet is standing at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €10,000.
