Solar Deity shines in Wulfruna Stakes

Exceed And Excel records his 64th Stakes winner worldwide

Four-year-old colt Solar Deity became the 64th individual Stakes winner for his sire Exceed And Excel on 9 March with a gutsy victory in the Listed Wulfruna Stakes at Wolverhampton.

Sent off as favourite for the seven-furlong contest, Solar Deity was settled just off the pace under jockey Martin Harley and despite eventual second Kenny Powers laying down a strong challenge, the Marco Botti-trained colt fought back impressively to win by a short head.

Bred by Castlemartin Stud and Skymarc Farm, Solar Deity is out of the winning Docksider mare Dawn Raid, a half-sister to Irish and French 2,000 Guineas winner Bachir.

Exceed And Excel is an exceptional source of Black type winners and has sired four G1 winners to date including Helmet, the winner of the G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes and G1 Champagne Stakes at two who went on to win the G1 Caulfield Guineas in record time.

Exceed And Excel stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £35,000 October 1st SLF, while Helmet stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €10,000.
