Second G3 victory for son of Exceed And Excel

Flamberge leads throughout to win the Sebring Stakes on Slipper day

A G3 winner of the Standish Handicap down the Flemington straight a few starts back, Exceed And Excel four-year-old Flamberge was having his second start at Rosehill, when proving too tough for his opposition, winning the G3 Sebring Stakes over 1200m on April 5 in Australia.

Jumping the gates extremely well, jockey Chad Schofield took the Peter Moody-trained gelding forward to lead and when Hot Snitzel, a winner of this race last year began to challenge and looked to be going slightly better, Flamberge dug in and refused to be beaten, winning the race by a long head margin with a further two lengths back to Bennetta in third.

Bred by David and Jenny Moodie’s Contract Racing, Flamberge is out of the G3 winner Razor Blade, a half-sister to the G3 Vanity Stakes winner Country Lodge. A half-brother to the G2 winner Sunburnt Land and a full to the dual Listed winner Curtana, Flamberge is one of five winners from six to race for his dam.

Razor Blade has an unraced two-year-old Medaglia d'Oro colt named Durendal, a yearling colt by Hard Spun and was covered by Exceed And Excel's triple G1-winning Darley stallion Helmet in the most recent southern hemisphere breeding season.

Exceed And Excel is the sire of 81 stakes winners, including nine at G1 level highlighted by Overreach, a winner of the G1 Golden Slipper on this day last year, this year’s G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Earthquake, as well as last week's G1 Al Quoz Sprint winner Amber Sky.
