Safeguard stamps his class

Exceed And Excel colt becomes his sire's 69th Stakes winner

Australia’s leading stallion Exceed And Excel produced his 13th individual worldwide Stakes winner of 2013 when Safeguard resumed from a spell with a dominant display in the G3 Kindergarten Stakes over 5.5f at Randwick, April 13.

Safeguard won impressively on debut at Flemington in December and was on a Golden Slipper preparation for trainer Peter Snowden before a spiked temperature put an end to that.

However, a masterful ride from Kerrin McEvoy enabled his connections to salvage a G3 win out of the preparation.

A homebred for Darley, Safeguard is out of G1-winning two-year-old Preserve, a half-sister to G1 winner and Darley stallion Denman.

Exceed And Excel is the sire of 69 Stakes winners worldwide with five individual G1 winners including last weekend’s G1 Golden Slipper winner Overreach, Darley’s triple G1 winner Helmet, Reward For Effort, Excelebration and Margot Did.

Exceed And Excel is standing at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £35,000 October 1st SLF, while Helmet stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €10,000.
