Record 100 first-crop winners for Blue Point

Leading young sire becomes the first stallion in Europe to achieve milestone number

Blue Point added yet another string to his bow on Friday, 31 January, when he became the first European stallion ever to sire 100 individual winners from his first crop.

From the moment his first crop of runners stepped onto the racecourse in early 2023, Blue Point made his presence felt, siring 10 individual winners before Royal Ascot had even begun.

The Royal meeting was of course the scene of Blue Point’s own greatest triumphs courtesy of his record-breaking G1 sprint treble, so it was appropriate that he should record his first Stakes winner there, as Big Evs stormed to a three-length victory in the Windsor Castle. He would of course go on to G1 glory, winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint in dominant fashion at Santa Anita.

Remarkably, he wasn’t Blue Point’s first G1 winner, as a month earlier Rosallion had landed the Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day at Longchamp. The impeccably bred colt has since won the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes and we can look forward to him racing on in 2025.

Blue Point was the fastest stallion ever to reach 50 individual winners, concluding his first season with no fewer than 51 successful progeny, five Black Type winners and a further four horses to have placed at Stakes level.

Last year, 70 of his first crop were successful on the track, headed by the aforementioned Rosallion.

There was further G1 success at Ascot for Blue Point, where his ultra-consistent son Kind Of Blue took the British Champions Sprint. This was a well-deserved first top-flight win, after he was beaten just a head in the Sprint Cup at Haydock the previous month. It also saw his sire join an elite group of stallions to have sired three major G1 winners so early in his career.

To date, Blue Point has sired 10 individual Black Type winners and 17 Black Type performers from his first crop. His strike rate of almost 70% is outstanding, with his daughter Vierson reaching the milestone 100th winner last Friday.

His second crop have also begun to make their mark, led by the unbeaten G2 winner Sky Majesty. 2025 certainly looks bright for this very promising young sire, now firmly established as a leading member of the Darley Dynasties.
