Overreach retains Slipper favouritism

Exceed And Excel filly dominant in the G2 Moet & Chandon Stakes in Australia

Jumping straight to the lead, the talented Exceed And Excel filly Overreach gave her rivals a galloping lesion, winning the G2 Moet & Chandon Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill on 23 March, tightening her claim on the G1 Golden Slipper where she is now a dominant favourite.

A winner of the Listed Widden Stakes at her last start five weeks ago, the Gai Waterhouse-trained filly defeated the previously unbeaten Villa Verde by four-and-a-quarter lengths, with the Shamardal filly Spurrendous back in third.

Bred by George Altomonte’s Corumbene Stud, Overreach is out of the unbeaten Snippets mare Bahia, a half-sister to Exceed And Excel’s G1 Blue Diamond winner Reward For Effort as well as the four-time Listed winner Consular. Bahia has a weanling full-brother to Overreach on the ground.

As the sire of more Stakes winners in 2013 than another other sire, Exceed And Excel is represented internationally by 65 Stakes winners and a further 54 Stakes performers including G1 winners Reward For Effort, Excelebration, Margot Did and Darley’s three-time G1- winning stallion Helmet.

Exceed And Excel stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £35,000 October 1st SLF, while Helmet stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €10,000.
