Night Of Thunder’s outstanding season continues with new Group winner

Pocket Square lands G3 Prix des Reservoirs to become her sire’s fifth Black Type winner

Night Of Thunder has been simply sensational this year, siring an astounding 64 per cent winners to runners – better than any other stallion in the northern hemisphere.

On Wednesday, 23 October he added a third Group winner and fifth Stakes winner to his record, when Pocket Square was victorious in the G3 Prix des Reservoirs, run over a mile at Deauville.

The Roger Charlton-trained filly was settled just behind the early leader, before making her move once entering the home straight. Quickening well under Mickael Barzalona, Pocket Square was never seriously challenged, crossing the line a length and a half ahead of fellow British raider Run Wild.

Pocket Square was third to subsequent Stakes winner Festive Star (Golden Horn) on her racecourse debut in August, before posting a convincing win at Ascot the following month.

Owned and bred by Juddmonte, Pocket Square is out of the Stakes-placed Dansili mare Shared Account, a full sister to G1 winner Zambezi Sun.

Night Of Thunder has now sired two Group winners in the last week, following Night Colours’ success in the G2 Premio Dormello on Sunday. He is also sire of fellow Group winner Under The Stars, Stakes-winning duo Molatham and Thunderous, plus a further three horses who have been placed at Black Type level.

Night Of Thunder will return to Kildangan Stud in Ireland for the 2020 season.
