Newmarket victory for Bello in Australia

Exceed and Excel gelding becomes the 65th Stakes winner for his sire

Having won two of his past three starts, Exceed And Excel gelding Bello jumped away as one of the favoured runners in the G3 Newmarket Handicap at Newcastle on 20 March, and did not let his supporters down, winning his first Stakes race and becoming the 65th global Stakes winner for his Champion sire.

Settling not too far from the leaders, the Peter Snowden-trained galloper made his run along the fence, winning the race by a long head from G1 Rosehill Guineas winner Laser Hawk with a half length back to Famous Seamus.

Bred by Darley, Bello is out of the Seeking The Gold mare Cara Bella, herself a daughter of the dual G1 winner Cherokee Rose, and from the family of Stakes-winning Champions Kirklees and Mastery. As the dam of five to the races, all winners, Cara Bella has a yearling filly by Medaglia d'Oro, a weanling filly by Commands and was covered by Medaglia d’Oro once again in the latest breeding season.

As the sire of 65 Stakes winners including G1 heroes Excelebration, Margot Did, Reward For Effort and Darley stallion Helmet, Exceed And Excel has been represented by nine Stakes winners in 2013, more than any other sire internationally.

Exceed And Excel stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £35,000 October 1st SLF, while Helmet stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €10,000.
