Kuroshio leads all of the way

Exceed And Excel colt proves too fast for older rivals in G2 McEwen Stakes

Exceed And Excel colt Kuroshio proved too fast for his older rivals, leading all of the way in the G2 McEwen Stakes over 5f at Moonee Valley, September 14.

A multiple Stakes winner as a juvenile, Kuroshio was having his second start as a three-year-old and was taking on older horses for the first time in his career.

After jumping a length clear of the field from his outside barrier, jockey Craig Newitt guided Kuroshio down to the rail where he led the field at a solid speed. The colt kicked clear turning for home and went on to defeat G1-winning sprinter Moment Of Change by close to two lengths.

A homebred for Darley, Kuroshio is out of the Gone West mare Arctic Drift and is a full brother to G3 winner Believe ‘N' Succeed and Listed winner Agulhas.

Exceed And Excel is the sire of 29 Group winners including three-time G1 winner and Darley stallion Helmet, and fellow G1 winners Excelebration, Margot Did, Overreach, Guelph and Reward For Effort.
