Group double for Night Of Thunder at Haydock Park

Estrange and Ten Bob Tony win their first Group races

Night Of Thunder, the leading stallion in GB and IRE this season, landed a Group race double at Haydock Park on Saturday 31, May.

First to strike was his four-year-old daughter Estrange, who easily landed the G3 Lester Piggott Fillies’ Stakes by over four lengths over Shaha (Cracksman). Lightly raced, she was winning her third career race from only four starts and her first at Group level.

Bred by Anthony Stroud, Trevor Stewart and James Hanly, she was a 425,000gns yearling purchase by Cheveley Park Stud and holds entries in the G1 Pretty Polly Stakes and G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Night Of Thunder didn’t have to wait long to complete the double with Ten Bob Tony winning the next race, the G3 John Of Gaunt Stakes over seven furlongs.

Bred by Knocktoran Stud, he had to survive a stewards enquiry in a close finish over Kinross, with Voterra (Farhh) back in third.

Night Of Thunder leads all other stallions in GB and IRE by prize money this season. His 13 Stakes winners are headed by the unbeaten 1,000 Guineas heroine Desert Flower, who heads the market in the G1 Oaks at Epsom this coming Friday.
