First winner for Dubawi

Dubai Story successful on debut to be first off the mark for his young sire

Dubawi recorded his first winner on Wednesday when the debutant Dubai Story won over six furlongs (1200m) at Marseille Borely in France.

A €50,000 yearling, the colt was bred by Julian Ince of Haras du Logis in Normandy, home to Darley stallions King's Best, Layman, Librettist, Country Reel, Slickly and Sulamani.

Dubai Story is out of Portella (Protektor), winner of the German 1,000 Guineas and the dam of dual winner Classic Port (by Slickly) and Piste Perdue (by Exceed And Excel).

Dubawi was himself the first winner for the late Dubai Millennium. He remained unbeaten as a two-year-old, when his victories included the G1 National Stakes, before going on to Classic glory in the Irish 2000 Guineas and adding a further Group One triumph to his record in the Prix Jacques le Marois, a race also won by his sire.
