First-crop foals impress at Tattersalls

Successful sales season continues for Earthlight, Ghiayyath and Pinatubo

The Tattersalls December Foal Sale concluded on Saturday, 26 November with significant success for all three first-season sires: Earthlight, Ghaiyyath (pictured) and Pinatubo.

Ghaiyyath’s first foals have proved extremely popular in the ring and he was the sale’s leading first-season sire with an average of 131,000 guineas. He also recorded the highest price for a freshman when his daughter out of G2 performer Tanoura was bought by Shadwell for 375,000 guineas. The mare has already enjoyed success on the Dubawi cross, having produced multiple Group winner Tanaza.

Pinatubo recorded the highest median of any first-season sire at 140,000 guineas. His top price (which was only bettered by Ghaiyyath among his peers) was 270,000 guineas for his son of Vivanite, from the family of Crystal Music.

Earthlight’s foals impressed at Goffs and this continued at Tattersalls as he averaged 57,000 guineas. His 2022 foal average stands at €61,000, all conceived at a fee of €20,000.

Among the older Darley stallions, Night Of Thunder’s sensational season continued with three foals selling for a average of 168,000 guineas, while Too Darn Hot registered a top price of 150,000 guineas. Masar had the joint session topper on Saturday when his half-brother to Dubawi’s Stakes winner Rogue Millennium was sold for 110,000 guineas.
