Pinatubo">Pinatubo’s Global Goal continued her rapid rise through the ranks by winning the final leg of the coveted Princess Series with a fast-closing victory in the G1 Darley Flight Stakes at Randwick on Saturday, 3 October.
The second G1 winner for her young Darley sire, and his first at the highest level in Australia, Global Goal has progressed from a rich $200,000 Wagga win last season to produce two come-from-behind placings in the Princess Series lead-up races, the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes and G2 Tea Rose Stakes.
Her victory came less than a month after Pinatubo’s first G1 winner, Saddadd, won the G1 Grosser Preis von Baden in Germany on Sunday, 6 September.
With similar patient tactics employed by jockey Dylan Gibbons in the Flight Stakes, the step up to 1,600m suited the John Sargent-trained filly, who had 0.35 lengths to spare over her six rivals.
Sargent indicated Global Goal could be given another chance this spring to double her G1 tally.
“She is going to the paddock Monday, then it will either be the Spring Champion Stakes or the Thousand Guineas,” Sargent said.
“Dylan rode her a treat today. It was always going to be tactical, but he used his head, got on his ‘bike’ early and she outstayed them.”
The 14th Stakes winner for Pinatubo, Global Goal is the unbeaten European Champion two-year-old’s second first-crop Southern Hemisphere Stakes winner, joining Voynichese, who won the Listed Show A Heart Stakes (1,500m) at Eagle Farm on 6 June.
Bred by Arrowfield Stud and owned by Jonathan Munz, Global Goal was purchased by agent Dean Hawthorne for $250,000 at the 2025 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
She is from a regal family. Her dam, the Fastnet Rock mare Tides, is a sister to multiple G1 winner Shoals, while her third dam is blue hen Shantha’s Choice.
