The Weekly Wrap

A round-up of all the action for the Darley stallions over the past week
Poet’s is the word

Poet’s Voice is reigning supreme as the leading British-based sire of two-year-olds this year with 28 winners so far. That impressive tally also puts him among the leading sires of juveniles in Europe as well, and his European appeal continued at the weekend as he recorded a new two-year-old Stakes scorer.

Already a triple winner this year, Summer Festival added further lustre to his record on Sunday when landing the Listed Premio Campobello over an extended mile in Milan.

Italy has been a happy hunting ground for Poet’s Voice previously, thanks to this season’s Classic winner Mi Raccomando, multiple Stakes winner Voice Of Love and last year’s Classic hero Poeta Diletto.

Poet’s Voice was also represented on Saturday by Poet’s Word who ran a fine race to be second in the G1 British Champion Stakes at Ascot, having previously been runner-up in the G1 Irish Champions Stakes last month.

Intimation strikes

The European Flat season may be moving towards the final curtain but Dubawi’s excellent year continues.

Intimation is one of 47 Stakes performers for Dubawi in 2017, and she added to his impressive Stakes tally for the year when triumphing in the G3 Prix de Flore at Saint-Cloud on Sunday.

Bred and owned by Cheveley Park Stud, the five-year-old mare scored by half a length in the extended ten-furlong contest to record her second Stakes victory. Dubawi’s daughters have enjoyed another stellar year, headlined by G1 winners Bateel, Nezwaah, Sobetsu and Wild Illusion, while his G1-placed daughter Coronet finished a good third in the G1 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

Mister Fluff keeps good Company

Fast Company has already enjoyed a banner 2017 in Chile with his winners headed by the unbeaten Champion of his generation Robert Bruce and G2 winner El Notario.

On Saturday, Mister Fluff became a seventh global Stakes winner in 2017 for his sire when landing the Listed Clasic Luis Vera Calderon y Luis Vera Giannini at the Hipodromo Chile.

The race name may be lengthy but Mister Fluff made short work of his rivals to win the nine-furlong contest and record his first Stakes success having previously been placed in the G1 Clasico Dos Mil Guineas in May.

Sales bandwagon rolls on

The European yearling sales bandwagon rolled on to Deauville last week for Arqana’s October Yearling Sale.

Iffraaj headlined the Darley roster during the four-day sale with a colt from the top-class family of Reckless Abandon and other G1 winners Ticker Tape and Brando sold for €210,000 to Godolphin (lot 95).

Broadhurst Agency went to €110,000 to secure an Iffraaj filly out of a sister to G1 winner Air Chief Marshall (lot 224), while a full-brother to the Stakes winner Aiming For Rio (lot 113) provided a huge return on investment when snapped up by the Hong Kong Jockey Club – a return of over 18 times his stud fee.
