Darley stallions a thundering success at Tattersalls

Night Of Thunder’s yearlings continue to excel, further first-season success for Blue Point, Masar and Too Darn Hot

Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2 concluded yesterday and saw tremendous results for several Darley stallions, not least Night Of Thunder.

His aggregate of 4,025,000 guineas was the highest of the sale, and some 750,000 guineas clear of his nearest rival. Even more impressive is the fact that his Book 1 and Book 2 yearlings have averaged £233,000 – over 11 times their conception fee!

Night Of Thunder’s top price during Book 2 was 575,000 guineas, given by Jamie McCalmont for a strapping colt out of juvenile Stakes winner Asidious Alexander.

His 2022 yearling average stands at €236,000 for 84 sold, with a median of €204,000.

Too Darn Hot earned leading first-season sire honours by both average (122,000 guineas) and top price (320,000 guineas). He also had the highest price for a first-season sire during Book 1, when his colt out of Turret Rocks went to David Redvers for 600,000 guineas.

Masar’s average of 88,000 guineas was over six times his conception fee and his median of 90,000 guineas was the highest for any first-season sire. He recorded a top price of 240,000 guineas, given by Sackville Donald for Mountain View Stud’s colt out of Sweet Lady Rose.

There was also further success for Blue Point, whose top-priced yearling was Pier House Stud’s colt out of Vintage Molly, knocked down to Peter and Ross Doyle for 265,000 guineas. He posted the highest aggregate of the first-season sires, with his yearlings amassing over two million guineas.

Other stallions enjoying tremendous Books 1 and 2 include Farhh (averaging 13 times his fee), Profitable (averaging 10 times his fee) and Territories (averaging nine times his fee).

The Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 3 is currently underway and will finish on Friday, 14 October.
