Charming Thought sires his first winner in style

Alicestar records impressive victory on her debut at Yarmouth

First-season sire Charming Thought added a first winner to his record and looks to have a very exciting prospect to look forward to, following the first-time-out victory by Alicestar at Yarmouth on Wednesday, 22 July.

Settled second from last under Tom Marquand early on, Alicestar was last of all at the halfway stage of the six-furlong contest. Switched two furlongs out, the David Simcock-trained filly came with a superb run between horses and kept on brilliantly to win by a length and a half from odds-on favourite Soldier Lions.

Bred by Lordship Stud, Alicestar becomes the fourth winner from four foals to race out of Atheera (Shamardal), herself a granddaughter of G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner and Champion three-year-old Mehthaaf. This is the same family as outstanding dual Champion miler Ribchester and Raven’s Pass’s G1-winning son Matterhorn.

Charming Thought, who stands at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket, won the G1 Middle Park at two, beating future sprint Champion Muharaar.
