Record 13th first-crop Stakes winner for Night Of Thunder

Stormy Girl lands Flying Fillies’ Stakes; new winner for Charming Thought as promising colt Charterhouse breaks his maiden in style

Young stallion sensation Night Of Thunder added a record 13th Stakes winner from his first crop on Friday, 14 August when his daughter Stormy Girl led from pillar to post to take the Listed Flying Fillies’ Stakes, run over six furlongs at Pontefract.

Sent straight to the front under jockey Cam Hardie, the Rebecca Menzies-trained filly dictated the pace throughout and finished her race superbly, eventually winning by a length and a quarter. Magical Journey (also by Night Of Thunder) added further Black Type to her record, finishing third.

Stormy Girl was bred by Rosetown Bloodstock and E McEvoy, Stormy Girl is out of the winning Clodovil mare Refusetolisten, herself a half-sister to G2 performer Tiger Tanaka and from the immediate family of multiple Group winner Snowdrops.

Night Of Thunder’s 13 Stakes winners from his first crop is a record for any European stallion at the same stage of their career, with Kingman next best on 11.

Also on Friday, first-season sire Charming Thought added a new winner when his very promising son Charterhouse justified odds-on favouritism to break his maiden at the Curragh.

Last seen finishing a close fourth in the G3 Tyros Stakes, Charterhouse was always travelling well in the seven-furlong contest and once asked for his effort, picked up superbly to cruise to the lead and win by two and three quarter lengths.

He holds entries in the G2 Futurity Stakes and the G2 Champions Juvenile Stakes and looks like an exciting prospect for his young sire.

Bred by Exors Of The Late Mrs B E Moore, Charterhouse is out of the multiple winner Crocus Rose (Royal Applause), a half-sister to G3 Lancashire Oaks winner and G1-placed Ela Athena.
