It may have been Archivist's first attempt at Stakes level, but he ran away to the most decisive victory over 1m 3/4f in the G3 Strensall Stakes at York on Saturday 22nd August.
The four-year-old son of Dubawi, last seen when defying top-weight to take the Goodwood Golden Mile in July, was happy to let the leaders go off at a good pace and was tucked in by jockey Callum Rodriguez. When the strong early gallop began to come apart, the Hamad Al Jehani-trained gelding wound his way through the field, hitting the front just outside the final furlong and pulling further clear to go on to win by a breathtaking seven and a half lengths. Saber Strike (Night Of Thunder) fared best of the rest, chasing in second place.
Archivist was bred by Cheveley Park Stud from their three-time winning mare Provenance (Galileo) and is a full-brother to three-time winner New Kingdom and half-brother to multiple winners Cruyff Turn (Dutch Art) and Paddy The Squire (Golden Horn).
Dubawi sets the standard by which all others are measured, being the European record-holding sire of 50 £1m+ yearlings. He has sired the winners of four of the last five winners of the Breeders' Cup Mile and, in 2025, marked his 200th Group winner.
