Notable Speech dismantled a high-quality field with ease when taking the G1 City Of York Stakes over 7f at York on Saturday 22nd August.
The prolific son of Dubawi and future Darley stallion was advertising his credentials when landing his sixth G1 victory on his first attempt at the trip. After an even break, William Buick was content to sit just behind the pace as the field settled into a rhythm. Tracking the pace-setting Marvelman, the Charlie Appleby-trained horse briefly appeared to flatten out as the leader increased the mid-race tempo, but soon gathered himself to reel in the front-runner before shaking off his rivals and storming home by two and three quarter lengths.
Notable Speech has won a brace of G1 races on each of the three seasons he has been racing and his tally of six is the most by any colt by Dubawi and one more than Darley stallion Modern Games - only Rebel's Romance can claim more over his career. No European horse has won more over the past three years and Notable Speech ties with both Rebel's Romance and Calandagan with his top-level score.
Notable Speech was bred by Godolphin from the mare Swift Rose (Invincible Spirit), herself a half-sister to G3 winner Desert Wisdom (Dubawi) and Grade 1 heroine Wild Beauty (Frankel).
Dubawi led all stallions by yearling average in 2025 and his globetrotting son, Rebel's Romance, has flown the flag around the world in recent years with 22 wins, 19 at Stakes level and over £12m in prize money. Notable Speech became Dubawi's record-setting fourth winner of the G1 Lockinge Stakes when unleashing an incomparable turn of foot to land the race earlier this year.
