Another juvenile success for Exceed And Excel

Overreach becomes Exceed And Excel's 61st Stakes winner

Exceed And Excel continued his dominance of two-year-old racing, producing his third Stakes winning juvenile in the past eight days with the exceptional victory of Overreach in the Listed Widden Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill, Australia on 16 February.

After claiming both G3 Blue Diamond Preludes at Caulfield last weekend with Kuroshio and Guelph, Exceed And Excel looks to have another highly exciting two-year-old in Overreach, who became her sire’s 61st Stakes winner.

Sent out a short-priced favourite following a second placing on debut in the Listed Debutants Stakes at Caulfield in October, Overreach jumped out of the gates almost a length clear of her rivals and was never headed. After leading comfortably in the early stages, the Gai Waterhouse-trained filly kicked clear at the top of the straight and went on to trounce her opposition by five-and-three-quarter lengths.

Bred and retained to race by George Altomonte’s Corumbene Stud, Overreach is the second foal of Bahia, a multiple city winning Snippets mare. Bahia is a half-sister to Exceed And Excel’s G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort, making Overreach his three-quarter sister in blood.

The sire of 61 Stakes winners internationally including G1 winners Helmet, Excelebration, Reward For Effort and Margot Did, Exceed And Excel is standing the current breeding season at Dalham Hall at a fee of £35,000, while his triple G1-winning son Helmet is standing his debut season at €10,000.
