Ombudsman once again highlighted his status as the world’s best middle-distance horse with another superb Ascot victory in the G1 Champion Stakes.
The son of Night Of Thunder and future Darley stallion had finished second to Calandagan in the same race but was lining up on the back of an outstanding season that had already yielded top-level success in the Dubai Turf and a successful defence of his Prince Of Wales’s title at Royal Ascot.
Settled in third by William Buick, the John and Thady Gosden-trained five-year-old cruised into the lead inside the final quarter-mile before storming clear of Calandagan for a near four-length victory.

Bred by James Hanly and a 340,000gns yearling, Ombudsman is a son of the winning Dansili mare Syndicate, a half-sister to two Stakes winners.
He will join his father on the Darley roster for 2027 alongside another outstanding Night Of Thunder colt, Bow Echo, who recorded the highest 2,000 Guineas race rating since Frankel and retired unbeaten after victories in the G1 St James’s Palace and G1 Sussex Stakes.
