Ghaiyyath enjoyed a superb treble at Goodwood on Wednesday, 23 September, headed by his son Respond’s impressive win in the Listed Foundation Stakes.
Two-year-old filly Please Don’t Go kicked off the day’s proceedings when landing the 10-furlong Maiden from Deira Moon (Naval Crown), before Plaid justified odds-on favouritism in the Conditions race run over the same distance, winning by seven and a half lengths.
The feature race of the afternoon was the Listed Foundation Stakes, which was won in some style by Ghaiyyath’s four-year-old son Respond.
Andrew Balding’s charge was soon in front under Oisin Murphy and despite last year’s winner Naqeeb laying down a strong challenge in the closing stages, the result never looked in doubt as he eventually crossed the line almost five lengths clear. Boiling Point (Too Darn Hot) finished off his race well to take second.
Respond was bred by Mr and Mrs John Banahan and is the first foal to race out of the three-time winner Cross My Mind, herself a half-sister to G3 winner and G1 Nassau Stakes second One Voice.
Ghaiyyath is enjoying another successful season, headed by G1 Jebel Hatta victor Opera Ballo. He has two juvenile Stakes winners so far this year as well as the G1 Golden Fleece runner-up Jesus Green.
