Notable Speech takes Woodbine honours

Dubawi's star miler lands his seventh G1 victory

The formidable Notable Speech made his trip across the Atlantic worthwhile, when taking the G1 Woodbine Mile in excellent style for the second consecutive year and notching up his seventh G1 win in the process.

The Charlie Appleby-trained entire and future Darley stallion was bidding to retain his crown en route to a second tilt at the Breeders' Cup Mile in November.

William Buick held his mount inside the pack as they jumped from the stalls, keeping good cover until the field fanned out as they entered the straight. With open air ahead of him, Notable Speech engaged his electric turn of foot to carve his way through runners, before charging clear and going away to win by a length and a quarter.

Bred by Godolphin from the mare Swift Rose (Invincible Spirit), who was placed second in the G3 UAE Oaks, Notable Speech has a glittering future as a Darley stallion ahead of him. A superlative addition to the Dubawi sireline, he is certain to garner much interest when he moves into his second career in the covering sheds.

Dubawi has sired four of the last five winners of the G1 Woodbine Mile and sets the standard for consistent production of winners at the highest level around the world. He stands alongside no fewer than six of his sons under the Darley banner and, with Notable speech set to swell the ranks, the continuation of his outstanding legacy looks certain.
