Fourth Stakes win for son of Dubawi

Al Nayyir lands the G2 Lonsdale Cup at York

Al Nayyir, Dubawi’s hardy eight-year-old son, landed his biggest prize on Friday, 21 August when swooping from the rear to win the G2 Lonsdale Cup. Run at York over slightly more then two miles, he was last to challenge and won going away by one-length over Illinois.

From 32 career starts, Al Nayyir has now won four Stakes races including the G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy earlier this year at Meydan.

Bred by Godolphin, Al Nayyir is out of the Manduro mare Bright Beacon and a brother to Stakes winners New London and Al Dabaran. From a deep German family, Bright Beacon is a half-sister to Classic winner Masked Marvel and the dam of Arc hero Waldgeist.

Dubawi has sired 19 Black Type winners this year including future Darley Stallion Notable Speech, winner of the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury in May. He is one of 64 G1 winners headed by leading stallions Night Of Thunder, Ghaiyyath and Too Darn Hot.
