Grit and determination were the order of the day when Komorebi, a three-year-old son of Pinatubo, showed he had both in spades to gain victory in the G3 Prix de la Fontainebleau over one mile at Longchamp on Sunday 12th April.
Settling towards the rear after ducking right from the stalls under Jockey Alexis Pouchin, the Andre Fabre-trained colt travelled well before throwing down his challenge less than four furlongs from home. Disputing the lead inside the final furlong, he showed admirable hardiness and a dour will to win after being headed, taking the race by a short neck and booking his ticket to the Poule d'Essai des Poulains in the process.
Bred by Godolphin from the mare Lyric of Light (Street Cry) he is the first Group winner of the mare's progeny.
Pinatubo had a 14% Black Type performers to runners ratio in 2025 - only Champion Sire Night Of Thunder was higher. He has sired Group performers from five furlongs to a mile-and-five, proving his versatility as a stallion. He stands at Dalham Hall Stud for a fee of £17,500 (Oct 1st SLF)
