Dubawi’s brilliant globetrotting son Rebel’s Romance won his 16th Group race on Saturday 28 February when easily winning the G2 Dubai City Of Gold. Facing inferior rivals, he hardly had to come off the bridle to record a facile victory.
The winner of 21 of his 31 starts, Rebel’s Romance has the brilliant record of nine G1 triumphs and 16 Group victories in a glittering career. The winner of two Breeders’ Cup Turf’s, he added two G1’s last season through the Joe Hirssch Turf Classic and Grosser Preis von Baden. With today’s victory he takes his career earnings to just over £12.3M.
A Godolphin-homebred, Rebel’s Romance is out by the Street Cry mare Minidress, who has also produced the ill-fated G1 winner Measured Time.
Dubawi, Britain’s greatest ever stallion, has sired 316 individual Black Type winners, of which 202 have won at Group level and 64 in G1’s. His legacy is secure with his stallion sons excelling around the world including Champion sire Night Of Thunder, and Ghaiyyath, who sired a G1 winner earlier in the day through Observer.
