Night Of Thunder could add another impressive stakes winner to his burgeoning roster on Saturday 21st February when his five-year-old son Sonshi demolished the field at Hanshin over 1400m under jockey Yuga Kawada and breaking the track record in the process.
After breaking smartly, Sonshi was content to sit against the inside rail and on the heels of the leaders. The pace was generous, but the Mitsumasa Nakauchida-trained entire looked to be travelling extremely comfortably just in behind the speed. As the field turned for home, Sonshi was angled out to draw level with the leaders, where he appeared to toy with them for a second, before switching on the afterburners and scorching clear to win impressively, setting a new 1400m track record.
Sonshi was bred by Shadwell Estate Company Limited and is out of the mare Afdhaad (Nayef). He is the highest rated progeny from the mare and a half-brother to multiple-winning sprinters Alafdhal (Lope de Vega) and Tawalla (Invincible Spirit).
Night Of Thunder boasted an incredible 32 stakes winners in 2025, including five at the top level. He is the only stallion to have achieved seven-figure yearlings in Britain, Ireland and France in 2025. Night Of Thunder stands at Kildangan Stud for a fee of €200,000 (Oct 1st SLF)
