Lord North reigns supreme in G1 Dubai Turf

Second top-level victory for son of Dubawi

Lord North, a son of Dubawi, added a second victory at the highest level when taking the G1 Dubai Turf at Meydan on Saturday, 27 March.

A winner of the G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Ascot last season, Lord North settled towards the rear under jockey Frankie Dettori before shaken up at the three furlong pole. Ridden to the fore with a furlong-and-a-half to travel, the five-year-old powered clear from the chasing pack to win by three lengths.

This is Dubawi’s second win as a sire in the G1 Dubai Turf following Benbatl’s breakthrough G1 win in 2018.

A Godolphin homebred, Lord North is the best performer out of the winning Giant’s Causeway mare Najoum. She is a half-sister to the G1 Blue Grass Stakes winner Bandini and also to G3 Sweet Solera Stakes victrix Discourse, dam of G3 Jebel Ali Mile winner Blown By Wind and the Listed-winning pair Discurses and Hadith.

Lord North is one of 44 winners at the highest level for his sire Dubawi who’s astonishing career at stud sees him drawing closer to his 200th individual Stakes winner. This was also Dubawi’s third Stakes winner of the day following Ironclad’s win in the Listed Golden Mile and Rebel’s Romance breakthrough Stakes success in the G2 UAE Derby earlier on the card.

Cementing himself as the most successful British stallion in Pattern history, Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud this season at a fee of £250,000 1 Oct, SLF.
