Second Stakes victory for son of Teofilo

Territorial takes the Listed October Stakes

Territorial, a son of Teofilo, added a second Stakes win on Sunday, 18 October when taking the Listed October Stakes over ten furlongs at Tokyo. Stalking the leaders and moving to the fore with three furlongs to go, the Japanese-bred entire pulled clear from the field alongside eventual runner-up Panthalassa, edging out his challenger in the final furlong to win by three-quarter-of-a-length.

Bred by Darley, Territorial is the best performer from the Street Cry mare Conservatoire, a half-sister to G3 Prix du Lys winner Claremont and to the dam of New Approach’s G2 Prix de Malleret heroine Strathspey. They are out of the G1-winning Darshaan mare Mezzo Soprano, daughter of a winning half-sister to the Champion Singspiel. This is also the extended family of Champion Japanese mare Vivlos and her G1-winning half-brother Cheval Grand.

With over 10% Stakes winner to runners, demand was high for the stock of European Champion Teofilo at the recent 2020 yearling sales with his 2019 crop making up to £325,000. Teofilo is the sire of 13 Black Type winners this year alone with three striking at the highest level including the three-year-old Tawkeel, winner of the G1 Prix Saint Alary. She is one of 18 individual G1 winners for her sire which also includes Classic winners Trading Leather and Pleascach.
