Four-year-old Brazuca, an Australian-bred son of Teofilo, won his first Group race in hugely impressive fashion on 25 March, flying home to land the G2 Colorado King Stakes at Turffontein in South Africa.
Settled in fifth position for much of the ten-furlong contest, Brazuca came with a devastating late run to sweep past his rivals and won going away by three lengths.
This was the fifth career victory for Brazuca, who finished second in the G1 Golden Horseshoe as a juvenile and was also placed at G1 level no fewer than four times at three.
He was bred by Wall Street Thoroughbred Pty Limited and is out of the unraced Choisir mare Base Paradise, also dam of fellow Stakes winner Mr Utopia (Elusive Quality).
Teofilo has got off to a flying start in 2017, siring five individual Group winners and a further four runners who have been placed at Black type level. They are headed by recent G1 Australian Cup winner Humidor, who finished second in today’s G1 BMW at Rosehill.
Teofilo, who is second only to his own sire by number of Classic winners and placed horses in Britain and Ireland since his first crop turned three, stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €50,000 October 1st SLF.
