Sheikhzayedroad takes the Long Distance Cup

Talented son of Dubawi takes the opening race on Champions Day at Ascot

Dubawi’s G1-winning son Sheikhzayedroad has been a wonderful flagbearer for his top-class sire and put up another super performance to land the opening race on a superb Champions Day card at Ascot, taking the G2 Long Distance Cup.

Stalking the early pace under Martin Harley, David Simcock’s charge was always in a perfect position and outbattling last-time-out G1 winner Quest For More (Teofilo), took the lead half a furlong from home and won by half a length.

Sheikhzayedroad has now won six Black type contests, including the G1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes and this year’s G2 Doncaster Cup.

He is out of the winning Highest Honor mare Royal Secrets, herself a daughter of G2 winner Marble Maiden.

Sheikhzayedroad is one of 28 individual Stakes winners this year for Dubawi, headed by G1 winners Left Hand, Postponed and Wuheida.

Dubawi was the leading sire at the recent Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, posting an average of 972,667 guineas and siring the top lot during every session of the three-day sale.
