Wed strikes late to take the G2 Prix du Calvados at Deauville

Daughter of Profitable now has won three of four career starts

The promising filly Wed continued her rapid rise to the top of the juvenile filly ranks when she rallied to take the G2 Prix du Calvados at Deauville by two lengths on Saturday, 20 August.

The two-year-old daughter of Profitable was winning for the third time in four career starts, wheeling back just nine days after taking a conditions race at Dax by four-and-a-half lengths.

Wed was handily placed in sixth after the opening stages of the seven-furlong contest. Taking closer order once past halfway point, the filly launched her bid passing the quarter-mile marker, then drew off under continued urging inside the final furlong to hit the line with a two-length advantage over Sparkling Beauty.

Bred in France by Medya Sarl & T. Tekce, Wed is out of Eaton Street, an unraced daughter of the Darley stallion, Discreet Cat. Eaton Street’s dam, River Street, is a full sister to champion and cornerstone Darley stallion, Street Cry.

Profitable, a brilliant winner of the G1 King’s Stand Stakes and fastest G1 sprinting son of Invincible Spirit, enjoyed a hugely successful first season in 2021, siring 28 winners. These were led by his winning daughter Quick Suzy, winner of the G2 Queen Mary and G3 winning sprinter, Miramar.
