Unbeaten UAE Jewel takes Newmarket Stakes in style

Progressive son of Dubawi adds a first Black Type win to his record

Three-year-old Dubawi colt UAE Jewel made an eye-catching debut at Newmarket during Craven week, winning the Wood Ditton Stakes by an impressive five lengths and on Saturday, 4 May, he made a successful return to the Rowley Mile when landing the Listed Newmarket Stakes.

Settled just behind the early, steady, pace under David Egan, UAE Jewel raced a little keenly but once asked for his effort, quickened impressively and was always holding the challenge from Walkinthesand, winning the 10-furlong contest more easily than the three-quarter length margin would suggest.

UAE Jewel, who is trained by Roger Varian and races in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid al Maktoum, will now head to York where he holds an entry in the Dante.

Bred by Highclere Stud and ORS Bloodstock, UAE Jewel is out of the Listed winner and Group-placed Galileo mare Gemstone.

Dubawi has now sired 16 individual Black Type winners in 2019, headed by G1 Dubai Sheema Classic winner Old Persian. He has sired two Stakes winners this week, following Plumatic’s victory in the G2 Prix du Muguet on Wednesday.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Darley stallions were responsible for the second and third-placed horses in the 2,000 Guineas, with King Of Change (Farhh) and Skardu (Shamardal) both putting up magnificent performances in the first British Classic of the year.
