Trap For Fools with his fifth straight race in Listed Towton Cup

Son of Poet’s Voice now aimed for the G2 Perth Cup

Another bold front-running effort has earned Trap For Fools a start in the G2 Perth Cup and confirmed his place among the best Australian offspring by his sire Poet’s Voice.

Under a polished ride from South African rider Douglas Whyte, Trap For Fools rolled to the front with 1,600m to run in the 2,200m race and was never seriously threatened, making the Listed Towton Cup his seventh win from his past eight starts.

The victory, the ninth of his 20-start career, followed a similar performance at his previous start in the Listed Tattersall’s Cup.

Trainer Lindsay Smith is now looking toward the G2 Perth Cup over 2,400m at Ascot on New Years Day to complete what has been a near perfect preparation for the four-year-old.

Trap For Fools is a member of a strong West Australian family, his dam Old Money having won the G1 WA Derby, the G2 Cox Stakes and the G2 WA Oaks.

Her brother Old Cobber won 14 races, including two victories the G2 CB Cox Stakes, and the family also includes Linc The Leopard who won the Perth Cup when it was G1 race.

Trap For Fools, who was bred by Distinct Racing and Breeding, joins Godolphin colt Viridine and My Country as the third Australian Stakes winner and 11th overall for Poet’s Voice.

Poet’s Voice stands at Dalham Hall Stud, Newmarket at a fee of £6,000, Oct 1, Special Live Foal.
