Poet’s Voice, Dubawi’s first Group-winning colt who sadly died earlier this year, had his best result as a stallion on Wednesday, 20 June when his son Poet’s Word gained a well deserved first G1 win in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes. An admirable colt who is progressing and always gives his all, ran on really well in the straight to beat Cracksman by over two lengths with a massive eight lengths back to multiple G1-winner Hawkbill in third.
Now the winner of six of his 15 career starts, he had won a brace of G3’s including the Brigadier Gerard Stakes on his last start, as well as numerous G1 placings including second’s in the Champion and Irish Champion Stakes.
Bred by Woodcote Stud, Poet’s Word is a half-brother to multiple G3-winner Malabar (Raven’s Pass) and dual winner Whirley Dancer, herself the dam of last season’s G1 juvenile Beckford. He is out of the Stakes-performing mare Whirly Bird who hails from the extended family of Inchmurrin and Classic winner Harbour Law.
Dubawi, who is the best stallion ever to stand in the UK and is fast approaching 100 individual Group winners, is also turning into an excellent sire of sires. His 2,000 Guineas winning son Makfi has already sired four G1 winners, three of which have won Classics including French 2,000 Guineas winner Make Believe. Alongside their sire at Dalham Hall is 2,000 Guineas hero Night Of Thunder and four-time G1 winner Postponed while at Haras du Logis in France is the 126-rated Hunter’s Light.
