Sweet success

Sweet Lilly records her third Stakes win; new Black type performers for Red Ransom, Tobougg and Exceed And Excel

Sweet Lilly, a four-year-old daughter of Darley stallion Tobougg, notched up her third victory at Stakes level on 25 July, running out the convincing winner of the Listed Lyric Stakes at York.

Settled at the rear of the field, Mick Channon’s charge swept down the centre of the course, coming from last to first to win the ten furlong contest by a length-and-a-quarter.

A day later Migraleve, also by Tobougg, gained her first Black type when third in the Listed Prix Reves D'Or at Vichy in France.

Also at Vichy, three-year-old filly Angelo Minny (Red Ransom) won the Listed Frederic de Lagrange to become her sire’s twelfth Stakes winner of the year.

Meanwhile at Ascot, Exceed And Excel's progeny continued to impress when his daughter Excellerator finished a close-up third in the G3 Princess Margaret Stakes. On Friday, the first-season sire recorded his twelfth individual winner of the campaign when Vitoria won at the second time of asking at Thirsk, having finished second on her debut last week. Runner-up to her by half a length was debutante Feeling Fab, by Refuse To Bend.
