Stakes win double for sons of Dubawi

Rebel's Romance and My Oberon land Listed contests at Newmarket and Windsor

Dubawi sired two stakes winners on Saturday, 25 June when Rebel’s Romance won the Listed Fred Archer Stakes at Newmarket and My Oberon followed up shortly afterwards at Windsor in the Listed Midsummer Stakes.

Owned by Godolphin and trained by Charlie Appleby, Rebel’s Romance, a four-year-old gelding, was prominent throughout under jockey William Buick and kept on inside the final furlong to win the twelve-furlong contest by an easy three-and-three-quarter lengths, with stablemate Kemari, also by Dubawi, back in second.

Rebel’s Romance, winner of last year’s G2 UAE Derby, was bred by Godolphin, he is out of the Street Cry mare, Minidress, an own sister to G3 scorer, Volcanic Sky.

At Windsor, five-year-old gelding, My Oberon who is trained by William Haggas and ridden by Stevie Donohoe, headed Modern News (Shamardal) in the final strides to take the eight-furlong Midsummer Stakes by a nose for his owner and breeder Sunderland Holding Inc.

My Oberon is a half-brother to My Prospero (Iffraaj) who finished a close third in the G1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last week and Stakes-winning filly, My Astra (Lope de Vega). They are out the G3-winning mare, My Titania (Sea the Stars).

Dubawi is enjoying a hugely successful season, including siring his 50th individual G1 winner when Naval Crown held off Creative Force (Dubawi) in the Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last week. He has also sired two Classic winners this season (Coroebus and Modern Games).
