Stakes double at Morphettville for Exceed And Excel

Shrouded In Mist takes G2 Queen Of The South Stakes

A determined victory by Shrouded In Mist in the G2 Queen Of The South Stakes on Saturday, 2 May has emphasised both the strength and diversity of the Darley stallions flagship Australian sire Exceed And Excel.

On a day when he sired yet another two-year-old Stakes winner when Forever Free won the Queen Of Adelaide Stakes, Shrouded In Mist became Exceed And Excel’s 169th Stakes winner.

Given a perfect ride by Barend Vorster, Shrouded In Mist withstood all challenges to beat the G1 winner Seabrook with Fidelia in third place.

A mare who is raced by her breeder Peter Katalanis, Shrouded In Mist had won five of her 28 starts before her latest win.

She is a daughter of the Stakes-winning Encosta De Lago mare De Lago Mist and is a sister to the Stakes winner Instinction and a half-sister to Into The Mist who was also a winner of the Queen Of The South Stakes.

De Lago Mist herself was the winner of the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Exceed And Excel will Stand the coming southern hemisphere season at Kelvinside, NSW at a fee of $132,00 including GST.
