Son of Teofilo shows his Character in G2 Tulloch Stakes

Three-year-old could now be on G1 mission in ATC Derby after dominant win at Newcastle

Former Irish champion galloper Teofilo continued his remarkable success at siring elite runners when Character won the G2 Tulloch Stakes over 1,850m at Newcastle on Monday, 28 March.

Jockey Tommy Berry positioned the three-year-old in fifth spot at the halfway mark before peeling off the leaders’ heels at the top of the home straight.

Character, out of the Australian mare Monogram - the winner of five races - surged past race favourite Sword Point and then held off Regal Lion to notch his first win at Stakes level and the third of his career.

The Listed Geelong Classic runner-up could now back up in the G1 ATC Australian Derby (2,400m) at Randwick on Saturday, 2 April against the best young stayers in the land.

Teofilo has sired 22 G1 winners to date, including Cross Counter, Exultant, Happy Clapper, Humidor, Kermadec, Valentino, Subjectivist and Melbourne Cup winner Twilight Payment - among a host of others.

Teofilo stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €30,000, Oct 1, SLF.
