Son of Teofilo makes light work of his rivals

Light Heavy successfully steps up in class to win the G3 Ballysax Stakes in impressive fashion

Teofilo’s impeccably-bred first-crop son Light Heavy, who first caught the eye when breaking his maiden on 28 March, stepped up in class with ease on 15 April when cruising to victory in the G3 Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown.

Settled in third position under Kevin Manning, the three-year-old colt took up the running a furlong from home and from then on, the result never looked in doubt as he cruised home to win by two and a half lengths from Call To Battle (by fellow Darley stallion King’s Best).

Owned and bred by his trainer Jim Bolger, who of course also trained Teofilo himself, Light Heavy is a three-parts brother to another of Bolger’s former charges in Parish Hall, who emulated their sire when winning the G1 Dewhurst Stakes last year.

Teofilo is also sire of G3 Tyros Stakes winner Remember Alexander, plus fellow Stakes winners Black Arrow and Teolane. He stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €25,000 October 1st Special live foal.
