Son of King’s Best takes the Derby de l'Ouest

Meleagros is victorious in France to become his sire’s latest Stakes winner

Meleagros, a three-year-old son of King's Best, became a new Black type winner for his sire on 2 July when landing the 12-furlong Derby de l'Ouest at Nantes.

Winning in convincing fashion by two-and-a-half lengths, the Alain Coutiel-trained colt took his number of career wins to three.

Bred by Oak Hill Stud, Meleagros is out of the Stakes-placed Royal Academy mare Viola Royale, who is dam of a further five winners including Listed winner and G3 performer St Andrews.

King’s Best, who has sired six individual G1 winners to date, is also sire this year of G2 winner Kesampour, plus Stakes winners Regarde Moi and Mighty Mouse.
