Sepoy’s first northern hemisphere foal arrives safely

‘Quality’ filly is born at New England Stud on 17 January

This year’s crop of new foals are now beginning to arrive in earnest and on Friday the first reported European foal by reverse shuttler Sepoy was born at New England Stud.

Bred by Geoffrey Bishop, the filly was described by Peter Stanley as, “A good sort, quality. She has good bone and substance”.

She is out of the Generous mare Wosaita, already dam of two Stakes winners including Group-winning filly Whazzis. The mare is herself a half-sister to French Oaks winner Rafha (dam of Invincible Spirit) plus fellow Group winner Chiang Mai – also dam of a G1 winner in Chinese White. Wosaita has a 2014 two-year-old by New Approach, who was bought by Andrew Balding as a yearling for 160,000 gns.

Sepoy was Champion two-year-old in his native Australia, winning both the G1 Blue Diamond and the coveted G1 Golden Slipper. He went on to become World Champion Sprinter at three following his outstanding victories in the G1 Manikato and G1 Coolmore.

He stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £15,000 October 1st Special Live Foal.
