Second winner for Layman

Serise scores in France; Dubawi filly finishes a head second in the Irish 1,000 Guineas

Serise became the second winner for her first-season sire Layman, winning on her second start over 1100m at Dax.

The filly out of Icingonthecake, by Septieme Ciel, was bred by Isabell Rousel and trained by her husband Michel Roussel.

Layman’s other winner to date is the filly Gerash, who won at Marseille-Borely on 2 April.

The good run of Dubawi’s offspring in this season’s Classics continued on Sunday when Anna Salai, who broke her maiden in the G3 Prix de la Grotte, only narrowly failed to build on that victory when beaten just a head by Sheikh Hamdan’s Bethrah in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. Dubawi is also the sire of 2,000 Guineas winner Makfi and Derby Italiano winner Worthadd.

Recharge, a four-year-old son of Cape Cross, was runner-up in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup and there was also a Group One placing for three-year-old Singspiel filly Hibaayeb, winner last year of the G1 Fillies’ Mile and third on Sunday in the Prix Saint-Alary.

The G2 Diana Trial, a lead-up race for the Preis der Diana (German Oaks) saw Shamardal filly Elle Shadow take third, having already won the Listed Berberis-Rennen on 2 May.
